Meet Our Therapists: Rachel Evans

Join us in welcoming another wonderful Speech-Language Pathologist to our team, Rachel Evans, MCD, CCC-SLP! Rachel earned a Bachelor's Degree in Communication Disorders as well as a Master's in Communication Disorders from Auburn University with a concentration in Special Education. We are so excited to have you, Rachel!

Tell us about your family.

I have been married to my husband Stephen for almost 11 years and we have two sons, Liam and Judah. I grew up near Huntsville, so we regularly travel back to visit family there. We have lived in Birmingham since 2019 and it definitely feels like home for us!

Do you have any hobbies or interests?

My husband and I are both Auburn graduates, so we love to watch Auburn sports in our free time. I also enjoy anything that gets me outside like swimming, kayaking, or hiking. Other interests I have are cooking (although I'm not very good,) visiting coffee shops, and doing puzzles.

Favorite Birmingham restaurant?

I love Mexican food! My favorite Mexican spots in Birmingham are Maya Mexican, Taco Mama, and Moss Rock Tacos.

Where did you go to school?

I got my Bachelor's and Master's degrees both from Auburn University (War Eagle!)

What made you want to be an SLP?

I went to college knowing I wanted to work with children with disabilities in some capacity. I initially thought I would land on either nursing or special education, but realized those weren't the right paths for me. With some help from a career counselor and experience shadowing SLPs as an undergraduate student, I eventually decided on Speech-Language Pathology and it has been such a rewarding career!

What's your favorite aspect of being an SLP?

I love being a part of helping kids meet their communication goals and reach their full potential!

What are your favorite resources for learning more about speech and language?

I enjoy following other SLPs on social media to help get different perspectives and new therapy ideas. I also love being able to collaborate with other therapists across disciplines so we can all learn from each other!

What's the one thing you wish parents knew about speech therapy?

I wish parents knew that they are an integral part of the therapy process! Their involvement and role in supporting their child's communication development at home is vital to success in therapy.
